A Patient's Journey: Healing a Broken Toe with Expert Care and Laser Treatment

At Central Florida Foot & Ankle Institute (CFL FAI), we understand that accidents can happen to anyone, at any time. Recently, we had a patient who experienced a painful and unexpected injury while playing on a kid's trampoline. This blog post details their journey to recovery, showcasing the expertise and advanced treatments provided by our skilled team.

The Accident

The patient, an active individual, tripped while playing on a trampoline and suffered a significant toe injury. The pain was immediate and intense, prompting them to seek medical attention at CFL FAI. Upon arrival, Dr. Carli Hoover promptly attended to the patient, ensuring they received the best possible care.

Diagnosis and Initial Treatment

Dr. Hoover conducted a thorough examination and ordered an X-ray, which confirmed a broken toe. The X-ray revealed a clear fracture, necessitating immediate intervention. To alleviate the patient's pain, Dr. Hoover administered a local anesthetic to numb the toe. Once the area was sufficiently numb, she skillfully reset the fractured toe into its proper position, ensuring optimal alignment for healing.

Advanced Laser Treatment

To further enhance the healing process, the patient received advanced laser treatments. Laser therapy is known for its ability to reduce inflammation, accelerate tissue repair, and alleviate pain. The patient underwent three laser treatment sessions:

  1. Initial Visit: The first laser treatment was administered immediately after resetting the toe. This session aimed to reduce initial inflammation and promote healing from the outset.

  2. Mid-Healing: The second session took place midway through the healing process. This treatment helped to further reduce inflammation and pain, supporting continuous recovery.

  3. Final Treatment: The third and final session was conducted at the end of the healing period. This treatment ensured that any residual inflammation was minimized, and the patient experienced optimal joint function and pain relief.

Patient Experience and Outcome

Throughout the healing process, the patient expressed occasional joint pain, which is common with such injuries. However, they noted a significant reduction in inflammation and joint pain following each laser treatment session. The combination of expert care from Dr. Hoover and the advanced laser therapy contributed to a smooth and effective recovery.

After six weeks, the patient's toe had healed completely. The X-ray confirmed proper bone alignment and healing, and the patient reported feeling much better, with minimal pain and improved mobility. They were able to resume their regular activities, grateful for the comprehensive and compassionate care they received at CFL FAI.
